Thermal transfer barcode printers are often used to print permanent labels, for example to be applied to long-lasting goods. Compared to direct thermal printing, the heated print head is pressed onto the back of a ribbon, which melts the ink and transfers it to the label. A wide variety of label materials are available (PVC, paper, etc.). The thermal transfer paper must be precisely matched to the label material to achieve the best printing result. The labels produced have the advantage of being smudge and scratch resistant. Thermal transfer label printers are available in different versions.

RFID tags or RFID labels are suitable for writing RFID label printer, which print labels and at the same time write to the RFID chips integrated in the label material.

In the two-color printers CAB XC4 and XC6, two print heads work one behind the other with two color ribbons. Thanks to their complete encapsulation, these systems are also suitable for high-performance use in the industrial sector. One of the print heads has an automatic ribbon saver that stops the ribbon when not in use. This print head is therefore usefully used for the special color.
