Getting started with industrial label printing

The German label printer manufacturer cab is using this slogan to promote its new EOS printer series. With the cab EOS2 and cab EOS5 models, two models are available depending on the application. The models differ in their construction. The cab EOS2 is the compact version for label rolls up to a diameter of 152mm. For applications with a high print volume, the cab EOS5 model is available for large label rolls with a diameter of up to 203mm. For mobile applications without a power connection, such as those found in agriculture or in warehouses, cab provides high-performance label printers with the mobile versions of the printer (cab EOS2 mobile and cab EOS5 mobile), which run on 24 V internal voltage and are powered by a battery can be supplied. The new label printers are the successor models to the successful EOS1 and EOS4 models, which are backwards compatible. Tried-and-tested features from the previous series have been adopted and additional useful features have been added (see features below).

Stand-alone printing

The cab EOS series has the ability to access and print labels even when the printer is disconnected from the host system. Label formats, text and graphic data as well as database content are stored on a memory card, a USB memory stick or internal data storage. Variable data can then be sent directly to the printer using a keyboard, barcode scanner or weighing system, added to the stored label and finally printed out.

Mobile printing anytime, anywhere

Regardless of whether in production, in the warehouse or in agriculture, with the cab printers you can easily print your labels, even if there is no socket for the power connection. This is not a problem thanks to the integrated powerful battery. For a precise impression, especially with narrow materials and transfer films, the printers work with narrow printing rollers. This prevents print roller abrasion, print head contamination and errors during material transport.

Design, print, manage – with the cablabel S3 software

With the help of the user-friendly cab software S3, the full performance of the cab printers is available.

And the software works this simply:

First, design the label. Only when printing does it have to be decided whether it should be output on a label printer, printing and labeling system or marking laser. Thanks to its modular structure, cablabel S3 can be gradually adapted to needs. To support functions such as native programming with JScript, elements such as the JScript viewer are integrated as a plugin. The designer interface and the JScript code are compared live. Special functions such as the database connector or barcode checking devices can be integrated. For control with software other than cablabel S3, cab offers drivers in 32/64 bit for operating systems from Windows Vista, Mac OS 10.6 and Linux with CUPS 1.2. Windows.

Cab has developed the embedded programming language JScript to control the printer. In addition to JScript and as an integral firmware component, it allows advanced programming of the label printer before the data is sent to print processing. For example, foreign printer languages ​​can be replaced without having to intervene in the existing printing application. Data can also be taken over from other systems, for example a scale, a barcode scanner or a PLC. With the Printer Vendor program, cab has developed the replace method to easily control cab printers with SAPScript from SAP R/3. The host system only sends the variable data to the printer. This combines the images and fonts that were previously downloaded to the local storage (IFFS, memory card, etc.).

For the EOS2/EOS5, cab offers an optional external control panel (Art. 6010186). It has the same functionality as the control panel on the printer and offers a USB slot. Cables in lengths of 1,8 m, 3 m and 5 m are available for connection to the printer.
