Medication reordering in the hospital with mobile data collector

Reordering medication in the hospital with a mobile data collector

Especially in hospitals, it is important that time-consuming processes can be processed and recorded quickly, efficiently and error-free. This means that important resources are automatically integrated and this connection can cause additional stress and additional effort. The increasing trend of difficult personnel situations in the healthcare system, the documentation requirements and regulations that must be observed are very time-consuming and often require a high degree of resilience. Whether in a hospital or a doctor's office, a large amount of medication always has to be optimally managed. The work equipment that is required must also be organized and managed. It often happens that replenishment is recorded using a pen and notepad. This method is of course considerably more time-consuming and, above all, prone to errors and not at all clear. In the best case, the item number is recorded manually in the PC ordering system. This is where the data collector comes to the rescue as important support and relief. A data collector is often a small and light device that fits perfectly in a jacket or trouser pocket. It can also be worn with a band around the neck. The medication to be reordered is scanned by the nurse using the data collector. Medicines are provided with a barcode that the data collector can easily scan and save all important information that can later be evaluated and processed - also for documentation purposes. For example, once the nurse has scanned all the medications required, the data collector is plugged into the base station or connected to a PC via cable. Previously installed software transfers the data to the PC and, depending on the configuration, passes it on to any data destination. With a linked computer, for example, log printouts of the scanned data can also be created. It is also possible to link the handy data collector directly to a PC, tablet or smartphone via Bluetooth. The barcodes are recorded via keyboard input. Data collectors are mobile barcode scanners with memory. They are the simplest and cheapest devices for mobile data collection. The data is collected and transmitted to the host via a docking station. Some devices have neither a display nor a keyboard; all entries are made via the barcode reader. Some models have Bluetooth integrated and can therefore also be used as a radio scanner.

The mobile data acquisition device can easily read 1D and 2D codes from a wide variety of surfaces - quickly and, above all, regardless of the location. The barcode read is confirmed via a beeper or vibration in a configurable manner. The display makes the recording process convenient so that the user is guided through the process. Bookings that have already been created can also be accessed and edited again later. It is also important to have a login mask with which the processor can identify themselves. The recorded data can later be easily transferred to central procurement via USB cradle or WLAN.

Not only in hospitals, but also in every doctor's office, the ordering process for medication and work equipment can be significantly simplified by using the mobile scanner. This saves you an enormous amount of time and the error rate drops significantly. Mobile data capture devices will make your everyday work much easier and optimized. The scanners are also suitable for quick and easy inventory. If you want to increase comfort or performance even further, you can also use MDE terminals as data acquisition devices. The mobile MDE device is equipped with a display and a keyboard, of course these are also available in the full-touch version (varies depending on the model and manufacturer). The mobile data capture devices have an integrated 1D/2D barcode scanner.

Also on topic Hospital information system, we have a practical report on digitalization as a driver of quality, efficiency and competitiveness for hospitals. This year the new anti-counterfeit guidelines for medicines have been fundamentally improved with the new barcode system. The aim is to significantly reduce the counterfeiting of medicines and, above all, make it more difficult. You can make an interesting contribution on this topic here ...
